SUMMARY:HYDRA
DESCRIPTION:The captivating allure of the azure waters surrounding the picturesque Greek island of Hydra has historically drawn bohemians\, artists\, writers\, and musicians. Among them\, expatriate Australian writers George Johnston and Charmian Clift found inspiration during the 1950s and 60s\, spending nearly a decade on the island where they produced some of their most notable literary works. \nTheir passionate and tumultuous love story raises universal questions about risk-taking\, the pursuit of dreams\, and the depth of commitment. Playwright Sue Smith intricately intertwines excerpts from Clift and Johnston’s writings to vividly portray these remarkable artists\, exploring both their personal journey and professional achievements as expatriates. \nRecently marking what would have been Charmian Clift’s 100th birthday\, a year-long celebration has commenced to honour her literary prowess and contributions to the arts. This tribute by Brighton Theatre Company with Hydra recognises her enduring legacy and literary talent.

SUMMARY:The Odd Couple
DESCRIPTION:Neil Simon’s Tony Award-winning comedy\, “The Odd Couple\,” comes to Melbourne. Shane Jacobson and Todd McKenney embody the iconic characters of Oscar and Felix\, two divorced men who become unlikely roommates. \nThis classic comedy opens on a friendly card game in the untidy apartment of divorced Oscar Madison. And if the mess is any indication\, it’s no wonder that his wife left him. Late to arrive is Felix Ungar\, who has just been separated from his wife. Fastidious\, depressed\, and none too tense\, Felix seems suicidal\, but as the action unfolds\, Oscar becomes the one with murder on his mind when the clean freak and the slob ultimately decide to room together. The action unfolds with hilarious results as The Odd Couple is born. \nShane’s portrayal of Oscar\, the cigar-smoking slob\, contrasts hilariously with Todd’s portrayal of Felix\, the hyper-allergic neat freak. As they navigate their differences\, their antics lead to comedic misunderstandings and uproarious laughter. This Australian stage production promises to revive the timeless humor of Simon’s classic\, with Jacobson and McKenney delivering comedic mastery. Audiences can anticipate the witty banter and mismatched dynamic that made the play\, movie\, and TV series beloved worldwide. Don’t miss the chance to witness this legendary duo bring to life the enduring charm of “The Odd Couple” in a side-splitting performance.

SUMMARY:Multiple Bad Things
DESCRIPTION:MULTIPLE BAD THINGS is a theatrical performance. It isn’t real\, yet in a world where self-righteous indignation often overshadows the most marginalised voices\, this theatre sometimes feels very real. \nIn this production\, set in a nondescript warehouse at the world’s edge\, three employees face a seemingly futile task. Struggling to collaborate\, they confront issues of inclusion and equity\, testing their physical limits\, cooperation\, and capacity for empathy. As civility erodes\, bad behaviour escalates\, and reality becomes increasingly distorted. \nBack to Back Theatre is renowned globally for challenging the boundaries of stage performance and personal perception. For over 30 years\, their ensemble has crafted powerful and captivating theatre that intertwines the personal\, political\, and cosmic.  Groundbreaking international productions include Ganesh Versus The Third Reich and Small Metal Objects.  MULTIPLE BAD THINGS is their latest endeavour. \nIn creating this new work\, Back to Back Theatre incorporates new voices into the creative process. Zoë Barry’s score is composed from field recordings of various “bad things.” Anna Cordingley’s design requires the actors’ physical involvement to fully realise the production.
