SUMMARY:Changeling
DESCRIPTION:A raw\, provocative reflection on identity\, belonging and the cost of being authentic to who you are. \nA Child was born before midnight\, beneath the wild eastern wind… \nThis is a small rural community; a community of masks\, a community of personas\, where fairies are evil and folklore are accepted as universal truths\, and the biggest threat of all\, is the changeling child. So when a Child begins to display unnatural traits and skills\, the community is steeped in fear. \nDebuting at Melbourne Fringe Festival 2025\, Changeling is a dark fairytale delving into the stigma experienced by disabled and neurodivergent people through the lens of ‘masked’ theatre. \nBased on European folklore and inspired by the likes of The Crucible\, Changeling explores the damage of ‘othering’\, the dangers of collective paranoia and mob mentality… within a world bearing eerie similarities to our own.

SUMMARY:The Importance of Being Earnest
DESCRIPTION:This preposterous and flamboyant production of The Importance of Being Earnest is a farcical play by Oscar Wilde about two bachelors\, Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncrieff\, who create alter egos named Ernest to escape what they believe are their mundane lives. Both men use this deception to woo women who are fixated on the name “Ernest”. \nCelebrated for its wit and repartee\, parodying and gently satirising late Victorian manners\, this version of the play deems to poke fun at quintessential Britishness and the pomposity of the upper class. \nWe bring to you two Victorian philanderers (which could be putting it nicely)\, Jack and Algernon\, as well as the likes of the formidable Lady Bracknell\, the glamorous Gwendolen Fairfax\, the ever-curious Cecily Cardew\, the bumbling Dr Frederick Chasuble\, the indifferent Miss Laetitia Prism\, ever devoted Lane and Merriman\, as well as A Handbag!

SUMMARY:Punk Rock
DESCRIPTION:Lunatix Theatre Presents: Punk Rock by Simon Stephens \nA Raw and Unflinching Look at Adolescence\, Pressure\, and the Chaos Beneath the Surface \nLunatix Theatre proudly announces its bold new production of Punk Rock by acclaimed British playwright Simon Stephens\, opening September 17th at Meat Market (Stables). Known for its visceral energy and chilling relevance\, Punk Rock dives headfirst into the emotional turbulence of teenage life with razor-sharp dialogue\, haunting insight\, and explosive drama. \nSet in a grammar school library in Stockport\, England\, Punk Rock follows a group of sixth-form students as they navigate the mounting pressures of exams\, relationships\, identity\, and an uncertain future. As tensions simmer and the cracks in their carefully constructed worlds begin to show\, the play builds to a devastating crescendo that forces audiences to confront the consequences of silence\, neglect\, and societal pressure. \nDirected by Jay Wood\, this production brings Lunatix Theatre’s trademark raw energy and youthful urgency to a play that has never felt more relevant. In a time where mental health\, violence\, and the complexity of identity are front and centre in public discourse\, Punk Rock cuts deep — daring audiences to question how we listen\, how we support\, and how we fail the next generation. \n“This is a play that demands your attention\, not just as a theatre-goer\, but as a human being. But it’s also about the moments of connection\, humour\, and humanity that exist within chaos. It holds a mirror up to how we live—and how we ignore the signs.” – Maddie Richards \, Artistic Director \nWith a cast of emerging Melbourne talent\, stark and immersive staging\, and a punk-fuelled undercurrent driving the emotional charge\, Punk Rock is not just a night at the theatre — it’s a wake-up call. \nTrigger Warning: This production contains themes of mental illness\, violence\, bullying\, death\, smoking and strong language. Recommended for ages 16+.

SUMMARY:Looking for Alibrandi
DESCRIPTION:Josie Alibrandi is in her final year of high school. Whip-smart and aspirational\, she is a third-generation Italian teenager and scholarship kid\, with the shadow of a family curse and a penchant for rule-breaking.\nJuggling grades\, boys\, and the claustrophobia of an overbearing Nonna and saintly mother\, Josie’s life becomes tangled in the webs of class\, identity\, and family history as she finds her place in a changing world. \nIconic novel and cult movie\, Looking for Alibrandi is the honest and empowered portrait of 1990s Mediterranean culture that spoke for the first time about systemic racism in Australia from a migrant perspective. It defined a generation and to this day resonates with those caught in the stranglehold of identity and othering in this country. \nAward winning director Stephen Nicolazzo (Loaded\, Merciless Gods) brought Melina Marchetta’s best-selling novel to the stage for the first time in 2022\, where Vidya Rajan’s AWGIE nominated adaptation joined three generations of women in a passionate\, heart wrenching\, and unmissable rendering of the Australian classic.

SUMMARY:The Witches
DESCRIPTION:This stage adaptation stays true to Roald Dahl’s beloved tale\, where a young boy and his fearless Grandmother take on the terrifying Grand High Witch and her coven\, who are secretly gathering at a seaside hotel. In the battle that unfolds\, the boy is transformed into a mouse. \nThese witches aren’t your typical broomstick-riding\, hat-wearing villains—they blend into the everyday world\, disguising themselves as ordinary women to carry out their sinister plans. The production is rich with opportunities for clever stage magic\, imaginative puppetry\, and visual surprises. Adding a comedic touch is the brash Jenkins family\, whose son Bruno also falls victim to the witches’ spells and ends up as a mouse.

SUMMARY:The Orchard
DESCRIPTION:Congratulations!\nYou’ve inherited a redundant cherry orchard\, a crumbling climate\, a failing economy\, inept institutions and the final play written by Anton Chekhov. What will you salvage? How much are you willing to let go? How much will be taken from you? \nWelcome to The Orchard\, where doomed inheritances and impossible expectations collide. Choices must be made. Classics must be questioned. Wood must be chopped. \nFrom the ‘frenetically uproarious’ (Time Out) collective renowned for their ‘meticulously practiced feat[s] of coordinated effort’ (The Skinny) such as Burnout Paradise and Grand Theft Theatre\, witness Pony Cam as they attempt to adapt Chekhov’s classic for an increasingly demanding world – and transform everything we hold dear along with it. \nThere will be real indecision\, real stories\, a person in a tree costume\, a lot of cling wrap and a chainsaw borrowed from a friend. \nWill you survive the adaptation?

SUMMARY:Ms Julie Gabler: trapped
DESCRIPTION:by Kathleen Mary Fallon \nIn this bold\, modern reimagining of Othello told through Desdemona’s eyes\, three actors explore love\, suspicion\, domestic abuse\, and pathological jealousy—often called ‘the Othello Syndrome’—in an inter-racial setting. As professional performers\, they not only enact their characters but also reveal themselves\, their relationships shaped and confined by the theatrical legacies of Shakespeare’s Othello\, Strindberg’s misogyny in Miss Julie and The Father\, and Ibsen’s feminist tensions in Hedda Gabler and A Doll’s House. Caught in this cultural framework\, we’re left to wonder: are they performing themselves\, or is the culture performing them? \nThis powerful exploration of gender\, race\, and sexuality delves deep into disturbing questions: What happens behind closed doors? Why do women remain in relationships that grow increasingly violent and irrational? How can one tell when ordinary jealousy tips into dangerous obsession? Ms Julie Gabler: trapped goes beyond simplistic labels like ‘evil’\, ‘patriarchal’\, or ‘misogynistic’ to examine the psychological fragmentation of abusers and the tragic vulnerability of their partners. It exposes not only the torment of those who inflict violence but also the peril of failing to see the signs—until it’s too late.

SUMMARY:Blood Wedding
DESCRIPTION:Adapted from the original play by Federico García Lorca \nBlood Wedding tells the story of a forbidden love between two people born into feuding families. Originally penned in 1933 amidst political unrest and calls for revolution\, this bold new adaptation brings Lorca’s work into sharp focus for a contemporary audience—resonating deeply in today’s uncertain world. \nAt its core\, Blood Wedding explores the personal toll of conflict and the silencing of women in patriarchal societies. It’s a battle of tribe against tribe\, class against class—building to a tragic climax. \nWith striking projections\, a visceral soundscape\, and physical\, stylised performance\, this production interrogates inherited traditions\, gender roles\, moral boundaries\, freedom\, and the raw\, destructive force of love—and violence. The blade\, both literal and symbolic\, becomes a chilling throughline. These themes remain just as urgent today as when Lorca first wrote them. \nKnives. Knives. Curse the man who invented them. Do you know what a knife can do? Ever stuffed salt into a knife wound? Pushed a man’s insides back into his belly? Ever seen someone split from throat to groin? Don’t tell me not to talk about knives—I know knives.\n— Mother\, Blood Wedding

SUMMARY:ECHO (Every Cold-Hearted Oxygen)
DESCRIPTION:A script no one has seen. An experience you’ll never forget.\nThe most performed playwright in the history of Iranian theatre Nassim Soleimanpour (White Rabbit\, Red Rabbit\, NASSIM) and acclaimed director Omar Elerian (NASSIM\, Misty\, two Palestinians go dogging) push the boundaries of Soleimanpour’s signature unrehearsed cold reads to the next level. \nEvery night\, a new performer takes to the stage not knowing what is going to be asked of them. Unrehearsed and deliberately unprepared\, the script becomes their only guide as they journey through the story of the playwright\, connected live from his home in Berlin. (Or is he?) Past performances overseas have seen the likes of Emilia Clarke\, Meera Syal\, Fiona Shaw and Benedict Wong take the stage. \nECHO: Every Cold-Hearted Oxygen invites you to consider what home means to you. Fusing technology with the oldest tricks in the book\, this is theatre for the age of climate crisis: an ambitious\, magical and profound production where no one travels yet everybody is present. \nBeloved actors and celebrated icons will create an unrepeatable and unforgettable experience. \nSubscribe to our eNewsletter to be the first to hear who will be taking the stage.

SUMMARY:Smokescreen
DESCRIPTION:A razor-sharp powerplay about the dark arts of marketing behind climate denial. \nIt’s 1977. Glenn has a crisis on his hands. He’s had a successful career as a marketing exec. for a major Oil company\, selling the fuel that powers the American Dream. Now he’s waking up to the damage it’s doing to the climate. In a secret meeting\, he consults with Bud\, a slick young talent from the Tobacco industry\, to figure out how to sell a toxic product – and how to live with yourself if you succeed. \nCompelling\, unnerving\, and piercingly relevant\, Smokescreen is a psychologically-charged battle of wits that reveals how the climate crisis we face today was shaped by the invisible hands of Ad men. \nSearing performances by Damon Baudin (Boys on the Verge of Tears\, Romeo and Julie)\, and C.S. Carroll (I Have No Enemies\, The Cadaver Palaver) collide in a pressure-cooker of manipulation\, morality\, and earth-shattering choices about controlling the narrative while the planet burns.

SUMMARY:All is Good.. in the Glow of Moonlight
DESCRIPTION:by simon starr and joseph sherman \nIn a smoky\, moonlit afterlife\, Jewish writer Isaac Babel meets his most notorious invention: the gangster king of Odessa\, Benya Krik. SUMMARY:Blackrock
DESCRIPTION:“One mistake. One life. One community torn apart.” \nIt’s Toby Ackland’s birthday party down near the surf club and that should mean heaps of grog\, drugs and good clean fun. But by the morning a young girl is dead raped by three boys and bashed with a rock. \nWho is responsible? The boy? The girl? Or the whole town.\nBlackrock\, playwright Nick Enright’s play about a teen party which culminates with a brutal rape and murder on the beach\, was deeply disturbing when it was written 30 years ago. Sadly many of the themes\, which swirl around the narrative after the tragic event\, still resonant today as Australia struggles with issues of domestic abuse\, respect and gender equality. \nBlackrock was originally adapted from a 45-minute piece by Enright\, A Property of the Clan\, that was inspired by the sexual assault and murder of 14-year-old Leigh Reannea Mears\, near Newcastle in 1989. The award-winning play premiered in 1995\, became a film in 1997\, and was critically acclaimed. \nLunatix presents this intimate and strongly shaped human drama focusing in on the social forces behind the male impulse to violence and the community’s response in the aftermath\, which are actively relevant in today society. \nFeaturing a strong cast of performers including\, Fletcher Von Arx\, Bailey Griffiths\, Sabrina Hault\, Olivia Mitchell\, Javier Lumsden\, James Parker\, Samuel John\, Isabel Dickson\, Charlotte Palmer\, Cassandra Hart\, Hayley Michaels and Matt Young. \nFor more information regarding the femicide epidemic in Australia: https://australianfemicidewatch.org

DESCRIPTION:by anthony hill \n“Once in a generation a mysterious wish for war passes through the people. Only by intense sufferings can the nations grow” – Sir Ian Hamilton\, Commander in Chief\, Mediterranean Expeditionary Force\, Gallipoli Campaign. \nAt just 14 years old\, Private James Martin enlisted to fight for his country\, not knowing he would never return home. SOLDIER BOY  follows his journey from Melbourne to the battlefields of Gallipoli. \nThis bold new production depicts the final hours of James Martin as he grapples with his choice to serve\, the loved ones he left behind\, and his legacy.
