About the Show

“I shouldn’t laugh at you, Cripple Billy…but I will!”

The Cripple of Inishmaan is set in a small community on the Aran Islands off of the Western Coast of Ireland in 1934, where the inhabitants are excited to learn of a Hollywood film crew’s arrival in neighbouring Inishmore to make a documentary about life on the islands.

“Cripple” Billy Claven, eager to escape the gossip, poverty and boredom of Inishmaan, vies for a part in thr film, and to everyone’s surprise, the orphan and outcast gets his chance…or so some believe.

Martin McDonagh’s comic masterpiece examines an ordinary coming of age in extraordinary circumstances and confirms his position as one of the most original Irish voices to emerge in the second half of the twentieth century.
