About the Show

“The Hunchback of Notre Dame” musical is based on Victor Hugo’s novel and Disney’s animated film, featuring both the original Academy Award-nominated score and new songs by Menken and Schwartz. Peter Parnell’s adaptation incorporates elements of story theatre and includes direct passages from Hugo’s gothic novel. Set in fifteenth-century Paris, the story revolves around Quasimodo, the bell-ringer of Notre Dame Cathedral, who yearns to experience life beyond the confines of his bell tower. During the Feast of Fools, Quasimodo ventures into the city and encounters the beautiful gypsy, Esmeralda, amidst a backdrop of rivalry between the Captain Phoebus and the villainous Archdeacon Frollo. As Frollo’s malevolent intentions threaten the gypsy community, Quasimodo becomes their unexpected champion.
