About the Show

This preposterous and flamboyant production of The Importance of Being Earnest is a farcical play by Oscar Wilde about two bachelors, Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncrieff, who create alter egos named Ernest to escape what they believe are their mundane lives. Both men use this deception to woo women who are fixated on the name “Ernest”.

Celebrated for its wit and repartee, parodying and gently satirising late Victorian manners, this version of the play deems to poke fun at quintessential Britishness and the pomposity of the upper class.

We bring to you two Victorian philanderers (which could be putting it nicely), Jack and Algernon, as well as the likes of the formidable Lady Bracknell, the glamorous Gwendolen Fairfax, the ever-curious Cecily Cardew, the bumbling Dr Frederick Chasuble, the indifferent Miss Laetitia Prism, ever devoted Lane and Merriman, as well as A Handbag!
