Annie, the beloved musical, returns to Australia in a vibrant new production. Directed by Karen Johnson Mortimer and produced by John Frost for Crossroads Live.  The show will light up Sydney’s Capitol Theatre from March next year. Tickets go on pre-sale from July 22, and interested fans can join the waitlist at anniemusical.com.au.

Featuring iconic songs like “It’s the Hard-Knock Life,” “Tomorrow,” “Easy Street,” and “N.Y.C,” Annie’s timeless appeal continues to captivate audiences. The book and score, crafted by Tony Award winners Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse, and Martin Charnin, have made the musical a classic since its Broadway debut in 1977.

John Frost expressed excitement about the revival, noting the continuous demand for the show. He mentioned the upcoming auditions to find the new cast, including the roles of Annie and her friends.

Annie’s origins trace back to the 1924 comic strip “Little Orphan Annie” by Harold Gray. The musical premiered on Broadway in 1977, won seven Tony Awards and has since been performed in over 22 countries. Its 1982 film adaptation starring Aileen Quinn, Albert Finney, and Carol Burnett further cemented its status in popular culture.

Australia has welcomed Annie multiple times, with notable productions in 1978, 2000, and 2012, featuring stars like Jill Perryman, Anthony Warlow, and Amanda Muggleton. The 2012 production even saw Warlow reprise his role on Broadway.

Annie’s enduring message of hope, family, and resilience resonates with audiences of all ages. This new production promises to deliver the same joy and inspiration.  Bringing the story of the spirited young orphan to life once more.
