Peter and the Starcatcher Set to Dazzle

Peter and the Starcatcher All-Star Cast for Australian Production

An all-Australian star cast will bring the five-time Tony Award-winning Peter and the Starcatcher to life for the very first time in a reimagined Australian production. The Broadway smash hit will premiere in October 2024 at the Canberra Theatre Centre.  Ahead of a national tour that promises to captivate audiences across the country.

Peter and the Starcatcher is the untold story of Neverland. Before there was Neverland, there was an island.  There was a pirate before Captain Hook. Before Wendy, there was her mother Molly. Before Peter Pan, there was a nameless boy. This enchanting prequel delves into the origins of these beloved characters, offering a fresh perspective on their stories.

Originally developed by Disney Theatrical Group and written by renowned stage writer and four-time Tony Award nominee Rick Elice (Water for Elephants, Jersey Boys, The Addams Family), with music by Wayne Barker, this all-new production is directed by Helpmann Award-nominated Australian director and Dead Puppet Society co-founder David Morton (Holding Achilles, The Wider Earth).

A Star-studded Ensemble Cast.

The Australian production boasts a star-studded ensemble cast. Leading the cast is Otis Dhanji, known for his roles in Aquaman and Netflix hit The Unlisted, who brings his talent to the role of Boy/Peter. Adding to the lineup is Colin Lane, one of Australia’s most recognizable comedy faces from the duo Lano & Woodley, who takes on the character of Black Stache with his signature humor. Completing the trio is television star Olivia Deeble, celebrated for her performances on Home and Away, More Than This, and Secret Society of Second Born Royals, as she steps into the role of Molly.

Also featuring are Ryan Gonzalez (Moulin Rouge! The Musical, In The Heights) as Fighting Prawn; Paul Capsis (La Cage aux Folles, Head On, The Rocky Horror Show) as Slank and Hawking Clam; Hugh Parker (The Office, The Family Law) as Captain Scott; Morgan Francis (Boy, Lost) as Prentiss; and Alison Whyte (Death of a Salesman, Groundhog Day The Musical, The Dressmaker) as Lord Aster.

There are over 100 characters in this production full of fantasy and adventure. Completing the company, are Leon Cain and Benjin Maza. Offstage covers include James Haxby, Erika Naddei, and Natasha Veselinovic. While on-stage musicians are Annie Silva-McKnight, James Dobinson, and Luke Volker.

Reimagined for Australian audiences, this highly anticipated version of Peter and the Starcatcher blurs the lines between reality and fantasy. Traversing oceans of mystical mermaids and lands of curious creatures. This production is a major coup for the international Brisbane-based production and design house Dead Puppet Society, led by Creative Director David Morton and Executive Producer Nicholas Paine. In an Australian first, they have been granted a license by Disney Theatrical Group and Music Theatre International (Australasia) to stage a new version of the Tony Award-winning production.

Peter and the Starcatcher will premiere at Canberra Theatre Centre in October 2024.
