A Couple Decides What to Have For Dinner

The Butterfly Club

Mystery Radio Theatre

My next show at the 2025 Melbourne International Comedy Festival, A Couple Decides What to Have For Dinner, was held at the Butterfly Club, a venue in Melbourne’s CBD I was visiting for the first time.

In the spirit of “Seinfeld’s show about nothing,” “A Couple Decides What to Have for Dinner” captures the universal experience of couples everywhere: the relatable, everyday struggle to choose a meal.

This 50-minute play strips away pretence, plunging us directly into the familiar chaos of a couple’s dinner-planning debate. Amanda Buckley and Chris Saxton deliver nuanced performances, showcasing the endearing friction inherent in long-term relationships. James Hazelden’s minimalist staging allows the relatable dialogue to shine at the charming Butterfly Club.

This show was fun and relatable for any couple who has ever eaten together, so my advice is to take your partner and have a laugh at yourselves.
