I walked into the quirky space of the TheatreWorks Explosives Factory and was very impressed with the stage setting which comprised of a white border at the front and just a white sheet at the back. Most of the setting for the show was done by the impressive lighting (designed by Tom Vulcan) which I found extremely effective, also most of the setting was done using chairs brought on by the cast. What I particularly liked was the titles of the show and subtitles being projected onto front white bordering, this made it easy to read and suited the style of the whole production. Another particularly good production factor was the background underscore that played throughout the show, this made for a very realistic take.
To the cast, Raven Rogers-Wright brought the comedy and naivety to the role of Ziggy. Her performance was both hilarious and at times confronting, a highly commendable portrayal. In the role of Jessica, Jackie Van Lierop is impressive, her role required a lot of grit and a strong emotional journey and she more than capably produced this. In the last scenes of the show this was particularly visible.
Louisa Cusumano brought the sass with the role Kiki and delivered her role with gusto and power, I know I found her slightly intimidating. She also doubled as Valentina who fakes her own death and stalks the other women in a parody of the scream killer, complete mask and butcher knife!
My favourite of the cast was the role of Cora, played by Anita Mei La Terra. From her first scene, she commanded the character and was also, in my opinion, the funniest. She was over the top, beefy and never lost her dedication to the role. One of her biggest scenes was dancing to the song “man eater” and that was definitely a crowd favourite.
Director Steph Lee has assembled a very strong cast and put together a highly professional and flawless production.
