Swamplesque

Melb Town Hall - Main Hall

Trigger Happy Productions

A Glitter-Soaked, Queertastic Romp Through the Swamp

Let’s be real – you haven’t truly lived until you’ve seen a sassy ogre in drag belt out a power ballad while surrounded by a chorus of campy, half-dressed fairy tale creatures. Swamplesque is not just a show — it’s a glorious, glittering celebration of queerness, creativity, and downright delicious debauchery.

From the moment the cast struts out, you know you’re in for a wild ride. This isn’t your childhood fairytale — unless your childhood involved burlesque, bawdy humour, and enough green body paint to make Elphaba jealous. What Swamplesque delivers is an unapologetic, high-energy spectacle that’s equal parts parody, performance art, and pure chaos – the fabulous kind.

Each number is a perfectly crafted explosion of character, comedy, and confidence. One minute you’re watching a sultry send-up of a beloved animated sidekick, the next you’re wiping away tears of laughter as an over-the-top villain delivers a monologue that sounds suspiciously like your last situation-ship. The humour is clever, cheeky, and often delightfully filthy – but always grounded in wit and heart. And let’s not forget the costumes – a sparkly fever dream of leather, lace, fishnets, frills, and swamp-chic glamour. Somehow, it works. All of it works.

What really sets Swamplesque apart, though, is its ability to make every audience member feel seen and celebrated. There’s something incredibly powerful about watching a show that throws out the rulebook and embraces every shape, shade, and gender with a big, sparkly middle finger to the binary. It’s joyful, it’s defiant, and it’s deeply affirming in the most ridiculous, rhinestone-studded way.

The cast radiates confidence, charisma, and a clear love for what they’re doing. You can feel the energy bouncing off the walls – a beautiful mix of talent, boldness, and that special kind of queer magic that makes you want to cheer for every single performer. It’s a reminder that performance doesn’t have to be polished to perfection — it just has to be real, raw, and ridiculously fun. And Swamplesque is all of that and more.

So, if you’re looking for a night out that’s irreverent, inclusive, and absolutely unforgettable, Swamplesque is the ticket. Bring your mates, your date, your fabulous self — and maybe a fan to cool off from all the steam this show brings. Just don’t expect a typical theatre experience. This is a swamp where anything can happen… and it usually does.

A hot mess of the best kind. Five stars, zero inhibitions, and one huge green-hearted hug of queer brilliance. Long live the swamp.
