Late To My Own Party

The Butterfly Club

Ellen O’Connor presents their show “Late To My Own Party” at the Butterfly Club and it was a comedy trip!  From the moment the show started, O’Connor was on point walking in from the back of the theatre getting the audience in the mood of what was to come.  The setting was in a post-apocalyptic world where Ellen was riding a bike in order to keep the lights and power going.

The show was an apocalyptic open mic night and started as a stand up comedy story where Ellen talked about their life, often turning dark stories into comedy adding a joke or two in, the next part was where audience members (not sure if it was planned or not) wrote down their acts to come up and demonstrate and one included acting out a scene from a movie while Ellen was hilariously giving them instructions on how to improve the performance!  I loved the way Ellen kept their poise and character going throughout the participants.  As the show continued, there was an alarm sounding throughout the theatre symbolising that their stories were going too long, another great comic stint.

The final parts of the show included a post apocalyptic meditation session and an exercise where the audience followed Ellen out of the theatre and into the bar to end the show.

I really enjoyed the show and loved the comic timing and the fact that it never slowed down or became boring.

Late to My Own Party closes Saturday the 8th of June. Book tickets online.
